| The necessity of chnaging your cars motor oil every 3,000 miles is in my opinon a myth. It is true however that it doesn't hurt to change your oil every 3,000 miles, you just dont need to. I do believe that a premium synthetic oil can last for about 6,000 miles or more. Oil Companies and quick lube operations are the ones that like you to think that 3,000 mile oil changes are needed. Why you ask? Because they will sell more oil! One of the leading quick oil change operations Jiffy Lube estimates that if they increased one oil change car per day (per shop) in their system, that's an extra $33 million in revenue. Of course, since Jiffy Lube is owned by Pennzoil-Quaker State, it should be of no surprise that what benefits Jiffy Lube.
