| Fuel injectors should be replaced about every 75,000 to 100,000 miles. A fuel injector is a electronically controlled valve of sorts. The fuel is first pumped by the fuel pump in your car through the fuel lines and then to the fuel filter. It then is pressurized at the injector then your injector sprays a fine mist of fuel into the combustion chamber when it is then ignited by the spark plugs. Fuel injection cleaner is good to use every year or so to help keep the injectors clean, but when the injectors wear out cleaning them will not help. Some of the common symptoms of bad fuel injectors are: engine has rough idle, engine stalls, hesitations, poor acceleration, low fuel mileage, and hard starting. One way to clean fuel injectors is to add a bottle of fuel injector cleaner to the fuel tank. Available at dealerships and automotive parts stores, this type of cleaner adds detergents and celaning agents to your fuel. Several automotive companies supply injector cleaner but most are usually contain the same ingredients. Make sure you don't use to much, usually 1 bottle per tank of fuel is enough to do the trick. If you use to much you could dammage the rubber seals in your fuel system. |
